Deep in the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco, there is a knitting tradition that stretches as far back as community members can remember. However, its continuation is uncertain as older members of the communities pass on and younger members choose not to learn the craft.
Follow along as I work with knitters and spinners to document their patterns, techniques, and knowledge. Together, we are creating a body of work that will be available to future generations and those beyond the boundaries of the villages where knitting is practiced.
You can read my very first blog post about knitting in the High Atlas here.
All posts related to the Atlas Mountains Knitting Project can be found here.
If you would like to try your hand at a knitting pattern inspired by the High Atlas knitting tradition, please visit my shop. The proceeds for all patterns developed with High Atlas Mountain knitters are divided so that the High Atlas knitter receives the greater portion. The remainder is reinvested into my documentation work.
Thanks a lot for your support!
